Petri dish with bacteria culture
Description (English)
An important practical contribution that Beijerink made to microbiology is the bacteria culture. Nutrients like sugars are added to an agarose gel. This ‘enriched’ gel is poured into petri dishes where the bacteria can grow. This is method is now an indispensible element of any microbiological lab.
