Print of a Philips Radio advert.

Object Description

This print comes from a Philips calendar from around the year 2000. The original image is from 1949. The image symbolizes the radio bringing the whole world into the sitting room. This image is an interesting echo in time. The reproduction from around the turn of the 20th Century reminds viewers of the optimistic times after the war (and how far Philips has come since). The original 1949 poster recalled advertisements from before the war, when the image of 'tuning in the world' was a common way of advertising radio. After the war, this looked like both a return to a world in 'harmony' as well as progress toward a technological future.
